About

Hamley's live drawings, executed in Wolff's Carbon and white chalk on mid-tone paper, are an exercise in controlled spontaneity; they adhere to the discipline of relative proportion and make use of gestural mark-making to capture the sense of movement and the unique atmosphere of the event.

Graduating from Bath College with a BA (Hons) in Design and Illustration in 1993, Hamley went on to work in packaging and illustration. After enrolling on a drawing course with Alex Cree, she became the Roaming Sketch Artist for Wilderness Festival for 5 consecutive years, drawing people in motion. In 2018 Hamley began an 18 month residency at Jazz Live at the Crypt in Camberwell and often returns there to sketch performances.

Hamley's paintings were selected for the 2016 Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize, the  2020 Painter-Stainers Art Sale and the 2021 Masterpiece Collection, and also the 2017 ING Discerning Eye Exhibition and the 2020 ING Discerning Eye Exhibition. Hamley has taken part in many exhibitions, see this list for highlights, volunteered for Dulwich Festival’s Artists’ Open House for over a decade, had illustration work feature in a Folio Society edition of the classic book ‘Black Beauty’, and was selected for the House of Illustration 2016 Book Illustration Competition Exhibition.
